A real ship has a crew, with people trained on the hydrophones and sonar, and lookouts who can see a periscope or a torpedo trail, 5 miles away. They still need some kind of indicator that a sub has been detected because the voice announces it, but there is no sign of the sub, unless you are on top of it. So the ASW abilities of the ships and planes have been improved, and that is good. But playing WOWS with a sub is no longer any fun. Of course this fits more with reality - 94% of the ships sunk by subs in WWII were merchant ships, because attacking a warship was suicide for the sub. Now I often don't even get a torpedo off before being depth charged.
